About this event

Malham Cove is a huge curving amphitheatre shaped cliff formation of limestone rock. On the top of the cove is a large area of deeply eroded limestone pavement, of a strange pattern rarely seen in England. Gordale Scar is a limestone ravine 1 mile northeast of Malham. It contains two waterfalls and has overhanging limestone cliffs over 100 metres high.

Interesting fact: The intricate limestone pavements may look strangely familiar - they featured in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. Harry & Hermione set up camp on the top of Malham Cove and scenes from the film feature views across Malhamdale and down to Malham Village.

We would like to emphasise the need for good outdoor walking shoes or strong trainers plus a layer of waterproof clothing. The walking will be split into different level of distances up to 8km over a 2 hour period stopping regularly to appreciate the views and points of interest.

We will finish the trip off with a pub or cafe visit in Malham for some traditional Yorkshire refreshments so we suggest bringing some spending money for a tasty meal, snack or hot drink before departing back for Leeds. Alternately you may want to bring a packed lunch and drink of your own.

*Please note this trip is run in partnership with Get Out Get Active and is subsidised by the Hall Exec Committee Fund*
