What we’re all about
We are the brand new Performing Arts Society at Leeds University Union, created to ensure that anyone wishing to learn how to dance, sing and act all at the same time in a casual and fun environment can do so. We strive on being the only non-auditioning, all-inclusive society which offers a range of weekly workshops where we will learn all sorts of stage skills and will work towards putting on a mid-year showcase, and perhaps even an end of year musical. We will be welcoming feedback and suggestions form our students along the way next year to keep improving and be the society our members want us to be, as we are essentially here to have a good time.
Our classes are as follows:
Tuesdays: 8.00-9.30pm Michael Sadler LG10 (singing and drama)
Saturdays: 5.00-6.30pm Mango Studio in the Union (dance)
The committee will teach some of the sessions, but we also plan on bringing in the occasional professional singing teacher, tap dancer or choreographer to mix up our meetings and focus a week on a particular skill required for the stage.
Our membership will be available to buy from the end of September onwards by clicking on the 'BUY MEMBERSHIP' button at the top right-hand side corner of this page. The cost of membership is currently at £25 which must be purchased prior to attending any classes. Additional costs may be require throughout the year when we get in professional teachers for example, but it is difficult to tell at this stage as a new society. Please note that refunds will not be possible at this stage.
Not sure about joining? Come along to our Give It A Go session on Sunday the 30th of September in Jade Studio (located in the union in front of the Essentials supermarket) from 5.00-6.30pm. You will get a good insight into what we do and get to meet the committee.
We plan to have a great variety of weekly socials, from trips to see musicals to nights out, but we will make sure we have both drinking and non-drinking events so that everyone feels welcome. We will always be open to feedback and suggestions.
