You can pick up a free pair of ear plugs from behind the bars at LUU when you’re on a night out. It only takes fifteen minutes for loud music to damage your ears so grab a pair and give your ears a rest.
Listening to loud music for too long can lead to tinnitus. If you already have tinnitus it’s especially important to keep protecting your ears when you’re out - it’s never too late to start wearing ear plugs. Ear plugs won’t ruin the music they just reduce the volume so you’ll still be able to hear the tunes.
Matt Port, Welfare Officer at Leeds University Union, said “Grabbing a pair of earplugs for a night out is a great way to protect your hearing whilst still having a good time. Whether it's the cheesy tunes of Fruity, the DJ sets in Terrace, or just one of your favourite artists in Stylus, you can just ask over the bar for a pair of free ear plugs."
As well as wearing ear plugs you can also try taking regular breaks by stepping outside for ten minutes and by staying away from the speakers. If you’re at clubs or festivals regularly, it might be worth investing in a pair of ear plugs to keep.
