It’s been brought to our attention that Matt Port’s Facebook Page has been cloned and messaging has taken place without the knowledge of Matt or LUU. In partnership with the University we’re working with the necessary authorities to get this sorted. It appears that the fraudulent activity has stopped however we’re keeping vigilant and want to make our students aware of the activity. Please stay vigilant too.
Neither LUU nor the University of Leeds would ask for payments or bank details over social media.
If you’re worried or suspect you’ve been contacted by the fake Matt Port over Facebook then please let us know and contact our Help and Support Team, advice@LUU.leeds.ac.uk, 0113 3801290.
This fraudulent activity in particular targeted new students surrounding their accommodation, if you’re concerned about your University Accommodation for 2018/19 please contact the Accommodation Team, firstname.lastname@example.org, 0370 1200189.
If you’re concerned about Digital Security, Becky Hurrell is our Higher Education Police Officer for the University of Leeds and you can contact her directly on R.Hurrell@leeds.ac.uk.
Unfortunately this isn’t the first time students have been targeted with fraudulent, fake or scam claims. More details have be found here.
