What we’re all about
The Anime and Manga society is dedicated to anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), visual novels and other aspects of East Asian popular culture. Even if you don't know what anime is, you may have heard of popular anime series like Yu-Gi-Oh, Sailor Moon, Naruto and Dragon Ball.
During term time we have weekly anime showings on Thursdays between 6:00pm and 9:00pm.
It's a bring & vote system where we watch five episodes a week, so we get to watch whatever you want!
Our members' favourite shows in 2017/2018 included Death Parade, Juuni Taisen and Megalo Box. This year we're already big fans of Zombieland Saga, That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, and Noragami, to name a few! So if you like the sound of those, go watch them! You can find some legal streaming options for anime here.
We meet in Old Bar (in the Union) from about 5pm-6pm. So if you want to find out about the showings (or any of our other events), or just want to have a pre-showing chat, come and see us there! We welcome everyone and anyone, regardless of anime knowledge, to come and join us!
We also head down to the Hedley Verity for food and drinks after our showings, so it's definitely worth coming along and meeting all of us!
Watch out for our weekend film days, group karaoke, Bowling trips, Cosplay & Drawing Workshops and joint events with other societies like the annual Xmas party, Thought Bubble Festival, our club night Geek Night, convention trips (last year we went to Birmingham MCM!), threatrical screenings, gaming nights and many many more.
All our events are published on the Facebook group, so if you want to find out more about any of them, go look there!
Membership is only £4 for the year and you get 10% off everything at Travelling Man and Forbidden Planet as well as free entry to our showings and regular events.
It will also give you access to our ever expanding library of anime, manga and visual novels - featuring manga series including Berserk, Dragon Ball, Food Wars, Attack on Titan, and much, much more!
